Baked Sweet Potatoes or Yams

Serves: As desired

Cook Time: 1 Hour


  • ​Amount of potatoes or yams desired
  • butter
  • (OPTIONAL) Cranberry Sauce (previous recipe)
  • (OPTIONAL) unsweetened pineapple


  1. Pierce scrubbed whole potatoes/yams with a fork in several places to allow steam to escape. If too hard, pierce after 30 minutes baking.
  2. Place potatoes/yams directly on oven rack in center of oven with foil under them to catch possible spills from baking potatoes/yams.
  3. Bake at 400° in preheated oven for approximately 1 hour or until tender when pierced with a fork.
  4. Serve with butter and/or with Cranberry Sauce (or commercial brand), or crushed pineapple, unsweetened.


Tip:  Serve with a colorful vegetable and a fresh salad. I almost always serve cranberry sauce with these, a very tasty combination.
